Greens call on Government to commit to anti-poverty strategy

The Australian Greens have marked International Anti-Poverty Day, calling on the Federal Government to prioritise a National Anti-Poverty Strategy, and to abandon cruel cuts to social security and income support.

Senate Inquiry hears more evidence about budget impacts on single parents

The Australian Greens said today that evidence presented to the Senate Inquiry into income inequality shows the disproportionate impact of the Government's budget on the most vulnerable members of the community.

"NATSEM outlined the findings of their latest report showing that those at the lowest end of the income spectrum are bearing the highest impact of the budget, and that the impacts differ regionally," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on family and community services said today.

Greens call on Govt & ALP to back down from DSP cuts

The Australian Greens have called on the Government and ALP to back down on changes to the disability support pension contained in a compromised Social Services Amendment Bill, Budget Measures Number 6, which is set to pass the Senate during the next sitting week.

"Research from the National Welfare Rights Network shows that the Government's budget measures will make it tougher for people with disability to access and retain adequate levels of income support," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens disabilities spokesperson said today.

Government employment plan ignores the reality faced by jobseekers

The Australian Greens said today that the Government's back down on some key parts of their employment plan show out of touch they are with the real circumstances faced by job seekers.

Greens table dissenting report as the Government ignores evidence about the budget’s flaws

The Australian Greens today tabled a dissenting report to the Senate Inquiry into the Government's budget cuts to income support and social security, saying that the Majority Committee Report conclusion does not reflect the evidence the committee received.

The Senate Inquiry report into two omnibus Social Services and Other Legislation Amendment Bills was tabled today, with the Australian Greens dissenting report recommending the bills not be passed.

The Australian Greens will move for a Senate Inquiry into Inequality in Australia, as the Government faces growing criticism about the impacts of the budget.

Landcare funding shouldn't be cut

The Australian Greens are dismayed that National Landcare program has been targeted for a 50% cut in the Commission of Audit report.

"A 50% cut in funding will put important Landcare, natural resource management, environmental programs and jobs at risk and comes as the movement celebrates the 25th anniversary of Landcare " Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens agriculture spokesperson said today.
