Morrison blackmails Parliament over the NDIS

The Australian Greens said today that linking the NDIS to cruel budget cuts is a poor start for the new Social Services Minister Scott Morrison, and that the multi-party support for the NDIS should not be undermined.

"Scott Morrison isn't a full day into the job and he is already signalling the lows we can expect from the Government," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on family and community services said today.

Appropriate housing critical for NDIS success

The Australian Greens support calls by the disability and community sector to ensure the housing needs of people with disability are planned for as the NDIS is rolled out.

"A core part of providing choice and control to people with disability is ensuring a range of secure and independent housing options are available," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on disability said today.

"The Community Housing Federation of Australia has estimated that by the time the NDIS is fully operational, there will be an unmet need for more than 80,000 dwellings.

NDIS cost cutting risks accessibility, services and productivity

The Australian Greens said today that any Government attempt to scale back the NDIS to save money would go against the spirit of the scheme and harm Australia's productivity.

With a decade of funding confirmed for the NDIS, the WA Government cannot continue to delay joining the scheme, the Australian Greens said today.
