Australian Greens Senator Rachel Siewert has congratulated organisers of this year's DisabiliTea, and says politicians can longer turn a blind eye to the growing support for a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Nearly 900 teas were registered across Australia and more than 46,000 supporters signed up to the Every Australian Counts campaign for an NDIS. "This movement can no longer be ignored by the political parties.
"Australians are realising that without an NDIS, they and their families are extremely vulnerable if something goes wrong," Senator Siewert, Greens Spokesperson on Disabilities said.
"Currently, many people with disabilities have to wait for essential equipment and services such as wheelchairs and therapy.
"The NDIS would help ensure this doesn't happen and that people get the care and support they need to live as independently as possible and with the dignity they deserve.
"Every Australian Counts campaigners should feel very proud of their achievements and they can count on the Greens as they continue to raise public awareness about this important issue," concluded Senator Siewert.
