Senate votes for Government to release remote work-for the dole evaluation

The Senate has supported the Greens Order for a Production of Documents requiring the Government to release the final evaluation report of the Commonwealth Development Program (CDP) by this Thursday.

“The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet confirmed in their response to questions on notice that the report has been finalised – but they seem to have decided not to release it, Senator Rachel Siewert, Greens spokesperson on First Nations issues said.

“What is the Government trying to hide? The Government is sitting on the final evaluation of CDP, which they have admitted is complete.

“Where is the accountability and transparency? The Parliament is being asked to consider another CDP Bill that is punitive and discriminatory but they won’t even report back on how the current program is going.

“The evidence so far from stakeholders and people on the ground is that this work for the dole program is discriminatory, punitive and difficult to comply with and it’s pushing people further into poverty.  All the submitters to the inquiry were against the Bill passing.
