The Australian Greens said today that the underwhelming response to the Government's relationship counselling voucher scheme is a clear sign that it should be abandoned.
"The low number of people applying for vouchers under the Government's scheme is the obvious outcome of an ideologically-driven policy," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on family and community services said today.
"This is the result of a Minister driving an agenda that does not meet the needs of our community.
"To genuinely support families, the Government should be focusing their time and money into addressing the flaws within our social security system, including inadequate levels of income support.
"Instead, all we have are ideologically driven policies," Senator Siewert concluded.
