The Australian Greens remain strong advocates for the aged care sector, including aged care workers.
The Australian Greens participated extensively in the ‘Living Longer Living Better' aged care reform package that was passed under the previous government, managing to secure a number of important amendments to the aged care package.
The Aged Care Workforce Supplement is a component of this aged care reform package, and provides a mechanism to improve the wages of aged care workers.
Yet under this Bill, the $1.1 billion funding for the Aged Care Workforce Supplement will be redirected to residential care, home care and flexible care providers of aged care services in the form of an increase in their basic subsidy.
This removes the guarantee of an increase in the wages paid to workers in the aged care sector, and the Australian Greens oppose the Government's efforts to dismantle this important component.
