Greens tell Premier - hands off JPP

Media Release
Rachel Siewert 16 May 2014

The Australian Greens said today that WA Premier Colin Barnett should forget about any thoughts he may have of restarting the push to process LNG at James Price Point in the Kimberley.

"The clear message to the Premier is ‘hands off'," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens marine spokesperson said today.

"The redrawing of WA's maritime boundaries makes absolutely no difference to the ongoing opposition to the processing LNG at James Price Point.

"We know Colin Barnett has an obsession with developing the Kimberley for industrialisation, and today's news will no doubt lead to a redoubling of his efforts to permanently damage a unique and pristine part of our state.

"James Price Point is one of the worst possible sites for development and industrialisation because of the significant environmental and culture impact it would cause.

"Onshore processing at James Price Point remains socially, economically and environmentally unacceptable, the Premier needs acknowledge this reality and move on," Senator Siewert concluded
