The Australian Greens today expressed concern about the proposal to limit access to the NDIS to those who acquire their disability under the age of 65. Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on disabilities said this would create a two tier system with those acquiring a disability over the age of 65 receiving less support.
"During the Senate inquiry I chaired this year into ageing with a disability, evidence was presented about the poorer services available to those living with disability over the age of 65," said Senator Siewert.
"The NDIS is supposed to fix our disability services, not make the situation worse for some people.
"Our age care system is not necessarily the right place for those living with a disability, simply because they are over 65.
"I will be raising this issue in any discussions with the Government over the NDIS next year," said Senator Siewert.
