Governments impairment tables will disadvantage people with disabilities

Media Release
Rachel Siewert 30 Jul 2011

The Australian Greens said today that the Government's new disability impairment tables will disadvantage many people with a disability.

"This is about Government trying to save money not helping people into employment" said Senator Rachel Siewert, Greens spokesperson on disabilities.

"People who should be on a disability support pension will end up on Newstart, meaning they will be over a hundred and twenty dollars a week worse off. People already struggling with a disability will be struggling financially while trying to find a job with a disability.

"I will be carefully reviewing the tables and legislation introducing these changes" concluded Senator Siewert.
