Access All Areas App - Greens open new front in push for greater disability access

The Australian Greens have developed and launched a smartphone app that will allow people with disability, family, friends and the community to report accessibility trouble spots from anywhere around the country.

"The Greens have created this app to provide people with a simple method for reporting accessibility trouble spots with their phone whenever they experience them," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on disability services, said today.

"Accessibility is something that most of us take for granted, but for some people simple things like accessing shops, public buildings, banks and transportation can become incredibly complicated and difficult.

"These issues have not been publicly prominent in recent times, so increasing community awareness, and building a picture of the issue is a critical first step towards a stronger commitment to access from local, state and federal governments and businesses.

"This is why we are putting the tools in the hands of all Australians to send in their reports.

"The reports people provide us will be summarised on our website for people to view. We'll also make the formal report publically available and provide information to Parliament, governments and the processes of other organisations, such as the work of the Australian Human Rights Commission.

"The Greens want to work with the community to ensure that disability issues stay firmly on the agenda," Senator Siewert concluded.
