Senator Bob Brown and Senator Rachel Siewert urge state and federal leaders to boost mental health services and work towards a national, universal public dental care scheme.
Senator Brown also vows to take on Rio Tinto, whose profit bonanza will benefit its more than 70-percent foreign shareholders, and other heavyweights as companies prepare to fight efforts to develop an alternative to coal and the Greens’ push to put an effective price on carbon.
He also expressed his concern about Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s intransigence and any move to give greater powers to General Omar Suleiman who has a reputation as a torturer and murderer.

Australian Greens Senator Rachel Siewert has used Senate Estimates to raise questions about the dispersant chemicals used on the Montara oil spill off the West Australian coast.
Two chemicals from the Corexit family, the dispersants Corexit 9500A and Corexit 9527A were used on Montara, totalling of 44,720 litres of the 184,135 litres deployed.
Corexit is already banned in parts of Europe including the UK and is being used in huge volumes in the Gulf of Mexico.
Rachel spoke to ABC Radio's PM program to discuss the Montara investigation.

The annual whale hunt is about to commence in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary with Japanese whalers, including the factory ship the Nisshin Maru, in place for the slaughter of nearly 1,000 minke whales and 50 fin whales. The start of the hunt coincides with a brief visit to Japan by Kevin Rudd, who will stop over in Tokyo on his way to Copenhagen to meet the new Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.
Whaling has caused diplomatic tensions between Australia and Japan, but its unclear if the subject will be raised during this week's talks. The Greens say Kevin Rudd is all talk and no action.

The oil and gas leak in the Timor Sea has finally been stopped and the huge fire which started on the well head of the West Atlas rig on Sunday has been extinguished. Engineers from the company PTTEP Australasia are hoping to board the West Atlas rig and plug the well, finally, in the coming days.
