i want to know the truth!

Was it 20km from shore, or 180km from shore.

For those of use that don't have political ambitions, opportunities to charter planes, and sick of hearing lies from politicians I for one want to know where the truth lies.

Oil Spill

Last night I watched the Documentary "Black Wave". Showing how Exxon are criminals as a result of the oil spill that has caused a massive environmental catastrophe. No herring and No salamon for fishing, and a town left with out a future, and what of the larger problem for the environment. What will be the long term impact of our Oil spill?

Oil Spill off Kimberley Coast

Humans need to implement all the available alternatives to fossil fuels immediately to prevent this kind of insanity. Fossil Fuels are the root cause of many wars, climate change and environmental degradation. We have the alternatives, let's use them. Pressure your local member; vote for environmentally responsible parties only.

data and maps for the WestAtlas oil spill

Most of us a concerned at the very slow response, and the casual seeming attitudes of our Governments, esp. the Federal one as they are the ones in charge and getting the royalties.

There is always going to be debate about "sizes" of oil slicks.
Is there any chance of putting together a map with "parts per million"
of oil in the top 10cm of the ocean, or whatever the standard
descriptions are?

Also, at present, your photos don't show up on Google photos with
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/view?q=West Atlas "oil spill"

A more general search shows too many other oil spills
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/view?q=oil%20spill&psc=G&filter=1#

And, the numbers need to be repeated.
If the well is leaking at half a million litres of oil every day, in 3 weeks it will have leaked as much as the Exxon-Valdez spill.
OK, it is open ocean, but it is still horrific.

Surely it isn't that hard to turn it off?

West Atlas Oil Spill

I too am horrified by the delay in plugging the leak. I agree it would be good to have a petition for people to register their concern. I have emailed the PM, Garrett, Combet & the WWF. What else can we do? If the leaks were off the Qld coast would there be quicker action I wonder? Now that there is evidence of damage to marine creatures, it is unacceptable that the leaks will continue for another 4 weeks, especially when offers of help have been received from local companies. The effects will be felt much wider than WA and we have a responsibilty to care for the oceans near us. The Federal Government's response has been appalling and the WA Gov't should be insisting more most be done quickly. Any company which mines our resources should be obliged to to have emergency equipment on standby, regardless of cost, for the accidents which may happen.

What date did the Atlas oil

What date did the Atlas oil spill occur on?????????????

by Jariah on Thursday 10th September 2009 at 9:01pm

An answer to Jariah and a correction to my earlier post

In reply to the post by Jariah,
I think the West Atlas oil spill occured on Aug 21st.

While the West Triton relief will is probably in place
(in mid Sep), it is still taking agonizingly long to close down the
flow.

Correction to my earlier post.
I think the numbers in my last post were out by at least a factor of 4.
I.e. the West Atlas spill is very bad, but not as bad as suggested in
my previous post.

From
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exxon_Valdez_oil_spill
In 1989, the Exxon Valdez spilled about 40 million litres.
If the well is leaking at half a million litres of oil every day, in 12 weeks (not 3 weeks as stated before) it will have leaked as much
as the Exxon-Valdez spill.

My apologies for any inaccuracy in both the previous post and
potentially in this one too.
